In EUSD, every student is a music maker!
And at all five middle schools, dozens of dedicated musicians are proud members of the concert band, playing wind, brass, and percussion instruments.
Under the direction of credentialed music teachers, our students gain valuable skills as they learn to read music, play an instrument, and perform together.
We are so proud of these young musicians, who demonstrated their artistic skills on Tuesday in the professional setting of the Concert Hall at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.
Every day is Earth Day in EUSD!
Today, Earth Day 2024, was the perfect day for making terrariums in teacher Heather Rogers' science class at Del Dios Academy of Arts and Sciences. The project was part of the greater study of the water cycle. "If you make them correctly, they water themselves," Mrs. Rogers said, adding that in the writing portion of the assignment her 6th-graders will explain the process of transpiration, evaporation, and condensation.
Students filled glass jars with essential terrarium ingredients, carefully layering materials such as potting mix soil, sand or gravel, moss, succulents, and decorative pieces like beads and tiny figurines.
What a beautiful way to celebrate our Earth!
Conway Lockdown Campus Incident:
The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority. We want to make our school community aware of an incident this afternoon that resulted in Conway Academy of Expeditionary Learning being placed on lockdown status.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday, a staff member reported hearing a gunshot in the surrounding area. Another staff member reported seeing a suspicious individual with what appeared to be a firearm. Staff members called 911, and the Conway campus was placed on lockdown status. A lockdown involves locking and barricading all doors, and securing the perimeter when safe.
Escondido police officers responded immediately, and a suspect has been arrested.
Out of an abundance of caution, the campus lockdown status was in place for about 30 minutes, resulting in a delay in the dismissal procedure. Police confirmed that it was safe to lift our lockdown status shortly after 3 p.m. We appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.

Identifying students who need help learning English is essential for providing the support they need to succeed in English language arts and literacy, mathematics, science, and other subject areas. The Summative ELPAC is the test used to measure students’ understanding of English when it is not their home language. Our students who are identified as English language learners will take the Summative ELPAC in person this spring. This test will give your child’s teacher information about where your child may need extra support.
