Thank you to all of our families for your support as we returned to on-campus parent-teacher conferences this year. We hope your conference experience was meaningful and productive. It was wonderful to have the in-person connection for these annual meetings, which play an important role in ensuring the success of our students.

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.

Calendar survey: We encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the brief school calendar survey, which closes Monday, October 10. The calendar survey is an essential component of the process for the development of calendars for upcoming school years. The process is underway with the joint calendar committee of the Escondido Union School District and Escondido Union High School District. The committee includes stakeholders from both districts, and works to establish a common school calendar that provides consistency, maximizes academic success, minimizes absences of both students and staff members, and meets the needs of the families served by both districts. As the committee members build the calendars, they consider several factors and goals, including creating a common calendar for use in both districts; aligning natural breaks between the school calendar and holidays; ending the first semester before the holiday break in December; and more. Input from all parents, guardians, and employees is a valuable part of the calendar development process, and we appreciate your participation.

GATE referrals: As part of our ongoing commitment to actualizing the unlimited potential of every learner, EUSD provides a Gifted and Talented Education program. For GATE identification, all 2nd-graders will participate in universal screening in November. For students in grades 3 through 8 who have not been screened for GATE, parents may request an assessment by submitting the Parent Background and Input Form to their school by Friday, October 14. The forms are available in the front office of every school. A school team will review requests and determine which students will be eligible for GATE screening. For more information, visit the EUSD GATE webpage, contact your school principal, or visit your school office.
