The Escondido Public Library is among the many community agencies that support EUSD families, and we are pleased to share that the library's adult literacy program is preparing for new English as a Second Language classes later this month.

The library’s Literacy Services team is currently conducting assessments to best place adult learners in ESL and other classes. In addition to ESL classes, the library’s Literacy Services department offers one-on-one tutoring, parent workshops, and other resources for adults. There is no cost for any of the adult literacy programs. To learn more, check the Literacy Services website, call 760-839-5440, or visit in person at 239 S. Kalmia Street.

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.

Preschool parent workshops: EUSD’s Preschool RISE Program – Responsive Interventions to Support and Educate – provides opportunities for children ages 3 to 5 to develop the academic, language, and social skills needed for school readiness through short-term targeted programs. Among these programs are upcoming speech and language workshops for caregivers, including “Language In Everyday Activities,” “Language In Play,” and “Storytelling.” Sessions are offered at 8:30 to 9 a.m. and 12:30 to 1 p.m. in Room PS-6 at Central Elementary School. Workshops will be conducted in English on September 14 and September 21; Spanish language workshops will be conducted September 28, October 5, and October 12. For questions or additional details, contact Preschool RISE at riseprogram@eusd.org or 760-432-2400 ext. 11002.

Vaccination clinics: Neighborhood Healthcare’s Saturday COVID-19 vaccination clinics are returning to Mission Middle School this fall. The clinics are from 8 a.m. to noon on the following Saturdays: September 17, October 8, October 29, November 19, and December 10. The clinics are free and open to community members age 5 and older. Appointments are encouraged but not required. Appointments can be scheduled online via My Turn. The Pfizer vaccines will be available – initial doses, children’s doses, and boosters. The seasonal flu vaccine is expected to be available in October. Officials continue to recommend the vaccine as the safest way to acquire protection from COVID.

Mental health resources: EUSD funds a program to help students, employees, and their families connect with mental health resources in the community. Care Solace is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help members of the EUSD community connect to a specific mental health provider to meet their unique needs related to insurance, location, specific therapeutic orientation, provider preference, and more. Details and contact information can be found here.
