student artwork on display

April 10, 2023

In EUSD, every student is an artist! Students at every grade level have the opportunity to express their creativity in paints and pastels, in clay and on canvas, through musical instruments and movement.

We invite you to see thousands of examples of this art in action and save the date for the 11th annual smART Festival on Saturday, April 15 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

This celebration of the arts in EUSD will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center’s Concert Hall. Student artwork from every EUSD school will be on exhibit on the first and second levels of the Concert Hall, while student bands, dance troupes, and actors will perform on the big stage. Food will be available for sale; credit card purchase only. We are looking forward to entertaining you at this year's smART Festival!

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.

Back to school: We are looking forward to seeing students tomorrow, Tuesday, April 11, when school resumes following spring break.

Employees of the Year: Please join me in congratulating three extraordinary representatives of the EUSD community who’ve been selected as EUSD employees of the year: AVID and Foundations teacher Carrie McGibney of Rincon is EUSD’s Teacher of the Year-Middle School; 4th-grade teacher Wendy Threatt of Felicita is EUSD’s Teacher of the Year-Elementary School; and custodian Mayela Guerrero-Ramirez of Farr Avenue Elementary is EUSD’s Classified Employee of the Year. We are grateful for their commitment to supporting the students and families of our district!

Summer programs: An email containing information about the 2023 summer programs and a personalized, online interest form for every student was sent to families on Friday, March 31. Families with more than one EUSD student received an email and form for each of their students. Only one form per student is needed. If you did not receive an email or need assistance completing the online interest form, please contact your school office or family liaison beginning Tuesday, April 11. Summer programs will be held at six campuses across Escondido, with the opportunity for limited transportation to most summer sites from designated stops. Enrollment eligibility varies by program. Space is limited, and enrollment will be conducted by lottery in the event that there are more applicants than spaces available. Summer programs will be held June 20 through July 14.
