Last Sunday, 290 EUSD students from 22 teams across 21 schools participated in the Girls on the Run Celebratory 5K at Mission Bay. Offered as part of our after-school enrichment program, Girls on the Run empowers students through a 10-week curriculum focused on confidence, connection, and healthy habits. The 5K was a joyful and inspiring event that brought together students, families, and staff to celebrate the incredible growth and achievement of our young runners. Thank you to our dedicated coaches for making this season such a success!
This past Sunday, May 17, EUSD’s Expanded Learning Team, in collaboration with the EUSD Pre-School team, our Director of Ed. Services, and Director of Special Education Services, hit Grand Avenue for the Escondido Street Faire! Our main goal was to connect with our wonderful Escondido community, and what a joy it was! We loved chatting with current, future, and even former EUSD students and their families. It was so much fun to reconnect, catch up, and showcase the incredible, no-cost, year-round programs we proudly offer to our EUSD families. While the grown-ups chatted, the children had a blast engaging in fun coloring activities right at our booth. It was a truly joyful day of sunshine, smiles, and community connection!

Here are this week’s updates and reminders.
Teacher Appreciation
On May 6, the Helpful Honda team from San Diego Honda Dealers paid a visit to Juniper Elementary to surprise Cynthia Zeighami with $5,000 in classroom supplies. Mrs. Zeighami teaches students who are visually impaired across Escondido. The donation included adaptive supplies for her students as well as braille board and card games, braille books, and so much more. Watch the surprise on CBS 8.
First Lego League
On Sunday, May 17, the Pioneer SuperBots competed at Francis Parker. Our students showed incredible teamwork and truly lived out their core values throughout the competition. A big thank you to coaches Ms. Algazi and Mrs. Sanudo-Thomas for their hard work in preparing the team. We also appreciate the mentorship from the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team, RoboGenesis, and the wonderful families who came out to support our students.
