Escondido Union School District to Fill Governing Board Vacancy (Updated)
The Escondido Union School District is seeking applications from residents in Region 3 to serve as a board member. A candidate will be appointed to fill the vacancy until the next general election in November of 2028.
The board vacancy has occurred due to Board Member Mark Olson’s resignation effective July 24, 2026.
By law, the board has 60 days to make the appointment.
Interviews are scheduled to be conducted at the Board of Education Special Meeting, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, 6 p.m. at the Carilyn Gilbert Education Center District Office, 2310 Aldergrove Avenue, Escondido, CA 92029. Those interested in being considered for appointment to this vacancy can download an application beginning July 31, 2026, at eusd.org or contact the Superintendent’s Office at 760.432.2110.
Board-Approved Interview Questions
At its August 13, 2026, meeting, the Board of Education approved the questions that will be used during the candidate interview process. Each candidate will be asked the same questions:
What are you passionate about, and what is the most important thing you want us to know about you?
Please discuss the issues and needs of our students, and do you have any solutions that would be important for the board to consider?
One of your responsibilities will include fiscal oversight. How can we ensure that the district is financially sound while meeting the educational needs of our community?
How do you take the diverse viewpoints within various areas in EUSD and meet the needs of all students in the district?
All applicants must be registered voters living within the boundaries of Region 3 in the Escondido Union School District.
