COVID-19 Information
The Escondido Union School District continues to prioritize the safety and health of our students and employees. The following are key components of our districtwide COVID-19 health and safety plan.
Symptoms of COVID-19
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported, ranging from mild to severe. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus. People with any of the following symptoms may have COVID-19:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
This list does not include all possible symptoms.
Health Screening
Families and employees are expected to screen for COVID symptoms at home before arrival at school each day.
Hygiene
Staff members will continue to promote safe hygiene practices with students, including proper handwashing, avoiding contact with one’s eyes, nose, and mouth, and covering coughs and sneezes appropriately.
Air Quality
HEPA air filtration systems are in place in all classrooms.
Isolation Protocols
The EUSD guidelines for isolation for COVID-19 have been updated to align with new guidelines from the California Department of Public Health. Isolation is for individuals who have tested positive for COVID. Isolation is a way to keep individuals infected with COVID-19 away from others. Strict isolation from others outside and inside of the home will minimize transmission of COVID-19.
Students with Symptoms
Should consider wearing a mask when experiencing respiratory symptoms and should test for COVID-19.
If testing positive, follow the directions for students who test positive.
Follow the Considerations when a Child has Symptoms of Illness in Child Care or School to determine if the student should be sent home or stay at home.
Students Testing Positive for COVID-19
Symptomatic
Stay home when symptoms appear. May return to school when they are fever-free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication AND other non fever symptoms are mild and improving.
Asymptomatic
Remain at school unless symptoms develop. Then follow the symptomatic guidance above.
All students who test positive for COVID-19:
Should wear a mask indoors through day 10 after their symptom onset or positive test date if asymptomatic.
Students may remove their mask sooner than 10 days if they have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart.
Should avoid contact for 10 days with individuals who are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
Students who are Close Contacts
May remain at school unless they develop symptoms. Then follow the symptomatic guidance above.
All students who are close contacts should test for COVID-19 if they:
Develop symptoms
Are at higher risk for severe COVID-19
Are around others who are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
They should wear a mask through day 10 after the close contact if they develop symptoms, or when around others indoors who are at higher risk for infection.
